About

I am a sculptor and a mould maker, living and working in a converted Baptist Chapel studio in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

It’s difficult to pin down what exactly inspires me most. Predominantly the emotional life; but wherever I go; whatever I read; the little or big activities of life inspire me. Everything has its profound influence on the response I give to a depicted subject, or the choice of subject matter.

I am quite driven by storytelling and like to research the language of symbols that would depict both the essence and transience of human experience. I believe that evoking metaphorical images from life is one of the ways to create a story, or myth- which arises from our time and can be the key to expressing our spiritual lives.

In my artistic explorations I practice life drawing, and whenever I can, use models for my sculpting work.

Process

I work in soft materials like clay or plasticine which respond easily to my emotion and quick touch. Clay seems to be my favourite material, but I also enjoy working in other mediums like stone and wood. Their harder nature has different positive characteristics and qualities for me, especially as I like to keep tool marks visible.

Materials

Clay, Bronze, Plaster polymer (Jesmonite), resin, stone, wood
